I noticed in smaug 1.4a you cant train attribute points str, lck, etc, using train points that differ from practice points anyway to re-enable this?

Not sure if the code is still there, I just used a train snippet I found.

I also found a train snippet but the one I found uses practices instead of training points...not what I desire, does anyone know of a snip that uses training points instead?

From the features you are asking about restoring and/or adding to SMAUG I'm gonna suggest you take a look at the DoT codebase. Comes with every feature youve asked about as configurable options and has some very interestion additions to most of them. There is also the benefit of an actively supportive designer to explain some of the more unique sections of code.

I kinda think DoT is going to surprise you. Heavily roleplay oriented with a solid combat base for the hack-n-slash types. There are quite a few rather interesting mods to the stock codebase by the various muds running DoT that have been included in the main distribution, a couple of which I've had a direct hand in and can help explain if Kalahn can't be reached for comment. Actually, if it's the SB mods, I'd be better to ask than Kal in a lot of cases since I worked on those mods. Anyhow, load it up and see what ya think, ask questions where ya need to and those of us that run DoT muds will answer where we can.

I checked it out..doesnt look like it's bad, but it's too close to rom for me.

Every major codebase traces its roots to ROM so regardless of what you use there will be a similarity at the code level and at least some similarity at the play level. Given the fact that DoT natively supports every feature you've asked about recently, it's probably worth looking beyond the surface similarity to find the more distinctive features. In the end however, yes the choice is yours but why take the hard way when theres a viable option?

There are heaps of posts about setting up, and using, DoT on this forum in its own section:
